navagraha stotra

Navagraha Stotras are believed to pacify the planets and protect the reciter from the evil effects of the planets. In Sanskrit, “Nava” means Nine and “Graha” means planet. Navagraha Stotras are therefore stotras for the nine planets.

ನವಗ್ರಹ ಧ್ಯಾನಶ್ಲೋಕಮ್ / Navagraha dyaana sloka

ಆದಿತ್ಯಾಯ ಚ ಸೋಮಾಯ ಮಂಗಳಾಯ ಬುಧಾಯ ಚ |

ಗುರು ಶುಕ್ರ ಶನಿಭ್ಯಶ್ಚ ರಾಹವೇ ಕೇತವೇ ನಮಃ ||

आदित्याय च सोमाय मङ्गलाय बुधाय च ।
गुरु शुक्र शनिभ्यश्च राहवे केतवे नमः ॥

aadityaya cha somāya maṅgaLaāya budhāya cha |
guru śhukra śhanibhyaśhcha rāhave ketave namaḥa ||

Meaning:

Salutations to the navagrahaas, the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu.

ರವಿಃ / ravi – 6 times

ಜಪಾಕುಸುಮ ಸಂಕಾಶಂ ಕಾಶ್ಯಪೇಯಂ ಮಹಾದ್ಯುತಿಮ್ |
ತಮೋರಿಯಂ ಸರ್ವ ಪಾಪಘ್ನಂ ಪ್ರಣತೋಸ್ಮಿ ದಿವಾಕರಮ್ ||

जपाकुसुम सङ्काशं काश्यपेयं महाद्युतिम् ।
तमोरियं सर्व पापघ्नं प्रणतोस्मि दिवाकरम् ॥

JAPAKUSUM SAKASAM KASHYAPEYAM MAHADHYUTIM
TAMORIM SARVA PAPAGNAM PRANATOSMI DIVAKARM

Meaning:

I pray to the Sun, the day-maker, destroyer of all sins, the enemy of darkness, of great brilliance, the descendent of Kaashyapa, the one who shines like the japaa flower.

ಚಂದ್ರಃ / chandra – 10 times

ದಥಿಶಙ್ಞ ತುಷಾರಾಭಂ ಕ್ಷೀರಾರ್ಣವ ಸಮುದ್ಭವಮ್ |
ನಮಾಮಿ ಶಶಿನಂ ಸೋಮಂ ಶಂಭೋರ್-ಮಕುಟ ಭೂಷಣಮ್ ||

दथिशज्ञ तुषाराभं क्षीरार्णव समुद्भवम् ।
नमामि शशिनं सोमं शम्भोर्-मकुट भूषणम् ॥

DADHISHANKH TUSHARABHAM KSHIRODARNAV SAMBHAVAM
NAMAMI SHAHSINAM SOMAM SHAMBHORMUKUT BHUSHANAM

Meaning:

I pray to the Moon who shines coolly like curds or a white shell, who arose from the ocean of milk, who has a hare on him, Soma, who is the ornament of Shiva’s hair.

ಕುಜಃ / kuja / mangaLa – 7 times

ಧರಣೀ ಗರ್ಭ ಸಂಭೂತಂ ವಿದ್ಯುತ್ಕಾಂತಿ ಸಮಪ್ರಭಮ್ |
ಕುಮಾರಂ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಹಸ್ತಂ ತಂ ಮಂಗಳಂ ಪ್ರಣಮಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ||

धरणी गर्भ सम्भूतं विद्युत्कान्ति समप्रभम् ।
कुमारं शक्ति हस्तं तं मङ्गलं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

DHARANI GARBHA SAMBHUTAM VIDHUTKANTI SAMPRABHAM
KUMARAM SHAKTIHASTAM CHA MANGALAM PRANAMAMYAHAM

Meaning:

I pray to Mars, born of Earth, who shines with the same brilliance as lightning, the young man who carries a spear.

ಬುಧಃ / budha – 17 times

ಪ್ರಿಯಂಗು ಕಲಿಕಾಶ್ಯಾಮಂ ರೂಪೇಣಾ ಪ್ರತಿಮಂ ಬುಧಮ್ |
ಸೌಮ್ಯಂ ಸತ್ವ ಗುಣೋಪೇತಂ ತಂ ಬುಧಂ ಪ್ರಣಮಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ||

प्रियङ्गु कलिकाश्यामं रूपेणा प्रतिमं बुधम् ।
सौम्यं सत्व गुणोपेतं तं बुधं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

PRIYANGUKALIKA SAMAM RUPENA PRATIMAM BUDHAM
SAUMYAM SAUMYA GUNO PETAM TAM BUDHAM PRANAMAMYAHAM

Meaning:

I pray to Mercury, dark like the bud of millet, of unequalled beauty, gentle and agreeable.

ಗುರುಃ / guru / brihaspathi – 16 times

ದೇವಾನಾಂ ಚ ಋಷೀಣಾಂ ಚ ಗುರುಂ ಕಾಂಚನ ಸನ್ನಿಭಮ್ |
ಬುದ್ಧಿಮಂತಂ ತ್ರಿಲೋಕೇಶಂ ತಂ ನಮಾಮಿ ಬೃಹಸ್ಪತಿಮ್ ||

देवानां च ऋषीणां च गुरुं काञ्चन सन्निभम् ।
बुद्धिमन्तं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम् ॥

DEVANANCH RUSHINANCH GURUKANCHAN SANNIBHAM
BUDHDHIBHUTAM TRILOKESHAM TAM NAMAMI BRUHASPATIM

Meaning:

I pray to Jupiter, the teacher of gods and rishis, intellect incarnate, lord of the three worlds.

ಶುಕ್ರಃ / shukra – 20 times

ಹಿಮಕುಂದ ಮೃಣಾಳಾಭಂ ದೈತ್ಯಾನಂ ಪರಮಂ ಗುರುಮ್ |
ಸರ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಪ್ರವಕ್ತಾರಂ ಭಾರ್ಗವಂ ಪ್ರಣಮಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ||

हिमकुन्द मृणालाभं दैत्यानं परमं गुरुम् ।
सर्वशास्त्र प्रवक्तारं भार्गवं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

HIMKUNDA MRUNALABHAM DETYANAM PARAMAM GURUM
SARVA SHASTRA PRAVAKTARAM BHARGAVAM PRANAMAMYAHAM

Meaning:

I pray to Venus, the ultimate preceptor of demons, promulgator of all learning, he who shines like the fiber of snow-white jasmine.

ಶನಿಃ / shani – 19 times

ನೀಲಾಂಜನ ಸಮಾಭಾಸಂ ರವಿಪುತ್ರಂ ಯಮಾಗ್ರಜಮ್ |
ಛಾಯಾ ಮಾರ್ತಾಂಡ ಸಂಭೂತಂ ತಂ ನಮಾಮಿ ಶನೈಶ್ಚರಮ್ ||

नीलाञ्जन समाभासं रविपुत्रं यमाग्रजम् ।
छाया मार्ताण्ड सम्भूतं तं नमामि शनैश्चरम् ॥

NILANJAN SAMABHASAM RAVIPUTRAM YAMAGRAJAM
CHHAYAMARTAND SAMBHUTAM TAM NAMAMI SHANISHCHARAM

Meaning:

I pray to Saturn, the slow moving, born of Shade and Sun, the elder brother of Yama, the offspring of Sun, he who has the appearance of black collyrium.

ರಾಹುಃ / raahu – 18 times

ಅರ್ಥಕಾಯಂ ಮಹಾವೀರಂ ಚಂದ್ರಾದಿತ್ಯ ವಿಮರ್ಧನಮ್ |
ಸಿಂಹಿಕಾ ಗರ್ಭ ಸಂಭೂತಂ ತಂ ರಾಹುಂ ಪ್ರಣಮಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ||

अर्थकायं महावीरं चन्द्रादित्य विमर्धनम् ।
सिंहिका गर्भ सम्भूतं तं राहुं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

ARDHAKAYA MAHAVIRYAM CHANDRADITYA VIMARDANAM
SINHIKAGARBHA SAMBHUTAM TAM RAHUM PRANAMAMYAHAM

Meaning:

I pray to Rahu, having half a body, of great bravery, the eclipser of the Moon and the Sun, born of Simhikaa.

ಕೇತುಃ / kethu – 7 times

ಫಲಾಸ ಪುಷ್ಪ ಸಂಕಾಶಂ ತಾರಕಾಗ್ರಹಮಸ್ತಕಮ್ |
ರೌದ್ರಂ ರೌದ್ರಾತ್ಮಕಂ ಘೋರಂ ತಂ ಕೇತುಂ ಪ್ರಣಮಾಮ್ಯಹಮ್ ||

फलास पुष्प सङ्काशं तारकाग्रहमस्तकम् ।
रौद्रं रौद्रात्मकं घोरं तं केतुं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥

PALSHPUSHPA SANKASHAM TARAKAGRAH MASTAKAM
RAUDRAM RAUDRATMAKAM GHORAM TAM KETUMPRANAMAMYAHAM

Meaning:

I pray to Ketu, who has the appearance of Palaasha flower, the head of stars and planets, fierce and terrifying.

ಫಲಶ್ರುತಿಃ

ಇತಿ ವ್ಯಾಸ ಮುಖೋದ್ಗೀತಂ ಯಃ ಪಠೇತ್ಸು ಸಮಾಹಿತಃ |
ದಿವಾ ವಾ ಯದಿ ವಾ ರಾತ್ರೌ ವಿಘ್ನ ಶಾಂತಿರ್ಭವಿಷ್ಯತಿ ||

ನರ ನಾರೀ ನೃಪಾಣಾಂ ಚ ಭವೇ ದ್ದುಸ್ವಪ್ನನಾಶನಮ್ |
ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯಮತುಲಂ ತೇಷಾಮಾರೋಗ್ಯಂ ಪುಷ್ಟಿ ವರ್ಧನಮ್ ||

ಗ್ರಹ ನಕ್ಷತ್ರಜಾಃ ಪೀಡಾ ಸ್ತಸ್ಕರಾಗ್ನಿ ಸಮುದ್ಭವಾಃ |
ತಾಸ್ಸರ್ವಾಃ ಪ್ರಶಮಂ ಯಾಂತಿ ವ್ಯಾಸೋ ಬ್ರೂತೇ ನಸಂಶಯಃ ||

फलश्रुतिः

इति व्यास मुखोद्गीतं यः पठेत्सु समाहितः ।
दिवा वा यदि वा रात्रौ विघ्न शान्तिर्भविष्यति ॥

नर नारी नृपाणां च भवे द्दुस्वप्ननाशनम् ।
ऐश्वर्यमतुलं तेषामारोग्यं पुष्टि वर्धनम् ॥

ग्रह नक्षत्रजाः पीडा स्तस्कराग्नि समुद्भवाः ।
तास्सर्वाः प्रशमं यान्ति व्यासो ब्रूते नसंशयः ॥

phalaśhruti

iti vyāsa mukhodgītaṃ yaḥ paṭhetsu samāhitaḥ |
divā vā yadi vā rātrau vighna śāntirbhaviṣyati ||

nara nārī nṛpāṇāṃ ca bhave ddusvapnanāśanam |
aiśvaryamatulaṃ teṣāmārogyaṃ puṣṭi vardhanam ||

graha nakṣatrajāḥ pīḍā staskarāgni samudbhavāḥ |
tāssarvāḥ praśamaṃ yānti vyāso brūte nasaṃśayaḥ ||
